THE HISTORY OF COFFEE IN JAMAICA

The Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee is a world-renowned brand which is grown in hills of the Blue Mountains of Jamaica located in the eastern part of the island bordering parishes of Portland, St. Thomas, St. Mary and St. Andrew to the south. The Blue Mountains are the longest mountain range in Jamaica and stands at a height of 7402 ft.

Coffee in Jamaica dates back to the early 18th Century when the first set of trees were brought to the country from Martinique by the then Governor, Sir. Nicholas Lawes and then ultimately from other Caribbean islands. Given the flora and fauna of the mountain range combined with the climate and soil, the Blue Mountains proved to be most conducive for coffee growing.

An expansion of coffee cultivation soon followed and the Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee rose through the ranks to become one of the most sought after coffees in the world. The Blue Mountains with its lush rainforest, frequent rain and fertile soil and somewhat of a permanent mist covering the hills leads to the growth and ultimately the production of 100% true Jamaican Blue Mountain exceptional coffee with a refreshing aroma and a unique taste.
